Barça regrets the suspension of the Miami match
The FC Barcelona has expressed its discontent after the cancellation of the match against Villarreal was announced, which was scheduled to take place in Miami on December 20.
The decision, communicated by LaLiga just after the match against Olympiacos, was motivated by the withdrawal of the organizing company Relevent, which cited the uncertainty generated in Spain in recent weeks.
A lost opportunity for the expansion of LaLiga
Hours after LaLiga´s announcement, the azulgrana club published an official statement expressing its regret over the suspension, although it reiterated its respect for the decision. Both Barça and Villarreal had given their full consent to play the match on U.S. soil, a stance that contrasted with that of the other clubs. Real Madrid was the most opposed to the proposal, pressuring both UEFA and CONCACAF and the Superior Sports Council (CSD) to halt the initiative. The statement from FC Barcelona
In its official note, the Catalan club clearly expressed its position regarding the decision: "FC Barcelona respects and abides by the decision to cancel the match that would have pitted us against Villarreal in Miami corresponding to matchday 17 of LaLiga, just as it respected and complied with the decision to play made at the time. FC Barcelona regrets the lost opportunity to expand the image of the competition to a strategic market with growth potential and resource generation for the benefit of all clubs. The Club appreciates the support and unconditional love it has received from our fans in the United States and deeply regrets that they are deprived of witnessing the official match in the country."The impact of the decision
From Camp Nou, it is considered that this suspension represents a and open new avenues for economic growth and global projection. The club, however, maintains its commitment to the international expansion of the FC Barcelona brand and hopes that similar projects will be resumed in the future to bring Spanish football closer to fans in the United States and other emerging markets. For Barça, beyond the sporting setback, the cancellation represents a missed opportunity to strengthen the image of the competition and connect with a fanbase that passionately follows the team across the Atlantic.More news
