Marc Bernal extends his contract with Barça until 2029

The young midfielder sealed his new contract at the club´s offices, accompanied by president Joan Laporta and the heads of the sports area. After the signing, Bernal spoke to the media from the Barça facilities.

At just 18 years, Bernal is considered one of the most promising players from the blaugrana academy. However, his progress was interrupted by a serious injury suffered in Vallecas on August 27, 2024, which kept him off the pitch for a year. His return came against Valencia, where he played 9 minutes, and he later participated again against Oviedo, where he played 1 minute.

Controlled recovery and new opportunities

Coach Hansi Flick is opting to reintroduce him gradually, as it is a severe knee injury and caution is key to avoid setbacks. Despite this, all signs point to Bernal gaining minutes with the first team. Additionally, Gavi´s injury, with an estimated absence of 4 to 5 months, could open up a spot for him in midfield and give him the opportunity to establish himself in the squad.
