The big absentees of the classic

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are preparing to play the most anticipated match of LaLiga, a clash that, in addition to its historic rivalry, will determine who will take the lead in this stage of the season.

However, not all the usual protagonists will be present, as both teams face significant absences due to injury or suspension.

Hansi Flick, pending the appeals

One of the most notable absences is that of the Barcelona coach himself. The German coach will not be able to direct from the bench after his expulsion by Gil Manzano in the match against Girona. This Wednesday, a one-match suspension was confirmed, although the club has filed appeals with the Appeals Committee. Even so, everything indicates that the punishment will not be lifted.

Raphinha, Ferran, Carvajal, and Trent could arrive in time

Good news for Barça: Raphinha and Ferran Torres have returned to training with the group today and have a chance of being available on Sunday. Ferran was even called up against Olympiacos, although he did not play any minutes, which opens the door to a possible starting position. In the case of the Brazilian, his participation as a starter seems less likely. In the white team, the focus is on the right-backs. Both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal have rejoined group training this week, and everything points to them being included in Xabi Alonso´s squad. Additionally, Ferland Mendy will officially return to the list after overcoming his injury suffered in the Cup final at La Cartuja, returning 179 days later against Juventus.

Olmo and Ceballos, in a race against time

The situation of Dani Olmo and Dani Ceballos is more complicated. Neither is completely ruled out, but both continue with their recovery processes. The player from Terrassa is still not training on the pitch, and due to his injury history, his return seems even more difficult than that of the Sevilla player. Ceballos, for his part, is already working alone on the Valdebebas field, although he has not yet rejoined the group.

The confirmed absences

Among the practically certain exclusions, the Barcelona coaching staff will not be able to count on Joan García, Lewandowski, Gavi, or Ter Stegen. In the case of Real Madrid, the confirmed absences are David Alaba and Rüdiger, while Huijsen has a small chance of arriving in time for the classic.
