Lewandowski suffers a new muscle injury!

FC Barcelona confirmed the news on Tuesday morning, explaining that the player will be out of action for three to four weeks. This is a setback from the injury he suffered at the beginning of August, which prevented him from playing in the Joan Gamper Trophy and the league opener against Mallorca.

The club´s official statement did not specify an exact recovery time, merely stating that "the recovery time will depend on the evolution of the injury". Although there is still no confirmation on the degree of the tear, all indications suggest it could be a grade 2 injury, which would mean about a month out. Reports from Poland even suggest that the period could extend to six weeks. This is the fourth muscle injury Lewandowski has suffered in the last 16 months.

Matches he will miss

This new injury comes just 12 days before the first Clásico of the season, which will see FC Barcelona face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu next Sunday, October 26 at 16:15, corresponding to the 10th matchday of LaLiga. Everything indicates that the forward will not be available for Hansi Flick in that match. Before that clash, Barça will have to face other commitments in which Lewandowski will also be unable to participate: against Girona in LaLiga and against Olympiakos in the Champions League. Additionally, he would miss the league match against Elche and likely would not be fit for the trip to Belgium to face Bruges. Prior to the third international break, the blaugrana will visit Balaídos to face Celta de Vigo on Sunday, November 9 (21:00). After that date, the team will not compete again until the weekend of November 22-23, when they face Athletic Club, possibly already at the Spotify Camp Nou. If recovery progresses without setbacks, that could be the moment when Lewandowski receives medical clearance.

The dreaded FIFA virus

Once again, the FIFA virus takes its toll on the blaugrana team. Lewandowski´s injury occurred after another international break. Although he did not play in the friendly against New Zealand, he did play 90 minutes against Lithuania in a qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup (Mexico, Canada, and the United States). In that match, the Barça forward opened the scoring in the 64th minute, in a game that ended 2-0 and leaves Poland with options to participate in the next World Cup. Additionally, other Barça players also returned with discomfort. Ferran Torres had to leave the Spanish national team´s camp early due to a muscle overload, although it seems he will be available this Saturday against Girona in Montjuïc. Meanwhile, Dani Olmo was injured a few days earlier and will be out for 2 to 3 weeks. As for Raphinha, he remains in recovery and his participation this weekend is uncertain, while Lamine Yamal has already overcome his pubic discomfort and could receive medical clearance in the coming hours. Many absences for Hansi Flick in the blaugrana attack at a crucial moment of the season, where injuries are once again becoming a serious headache for the German coach.
