Dani Olmo suffers a minor injury in the soleus: medical statement and estimated time off

Good news for Hansi Flick regarding the physical condition of Dani Olmo. Medical tests have ruled out a tear in the left calf, so the midfielder will not have to be out for four weeks, as had been speculated after leaving the Spanish national team´s camp.

In an official statement, FC Barcelona reported that "he has a muscle injury in the soleus of the left leg without connective tissue involvement." This means that the ailment is limited to the muscle fibers of the soleus and that there is no damage to the connective tissues surrounding or inserting into the muscle. This diagnosis confirms that there is no tendon involvement, so recovery will be quicker. Although the club has not indicated an exact time off, it is estimated that the player will be absent for two to three weeks. With the Clásico against Real Madrid set for October 26, the timeline seems too tight for Olmo to be fit to play in that match. During this period, the midfielder will miss the matches against Girona (October 18) and Olympiakos (October 21). His participation in the Clásico is considered practically impossible, although, in the best-case scenario, he could return on November 2 against Elche.

Less severe injury than expected

The player returned to Barcelona early on Saturday after being with the national team during this second international break of the season. According to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Olmo arrived at the camp "with signs of muscle fatigue as reported by FC Barcelona." Subsequently, the national team´s medical services conducted "some complementary tests" and determined "a muscle injury of which the medical services of FC Barcelona have been informed," according to the medical statement from the RFEF. By this Monday, Olmo went to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, where it was confirmed that the injury was milder than initially suspected.

A demanding start to the season

Dani Olmo had already experienced minor discomfort during preseason, which prevented him from participating in the Trofeo Joan Gamper. However, since the start of the campaign, he has been available for all official matches, although only three of them as a starter. The midfielder is part of the small group of players who have participated in the 10 matches played by Barça to date, alongside Pedri, Eric García, Koundé, Ferran Torres, and Rashford. The good news for the blaugrana team is that, barring setbacks, Olmo´s recovery should be completed without complications, allowing him to return to the team´s dynamics at the beginning of November.
