Flick: ”The second half gives us confidence for the upcoming matches”
In the press conference following the match in which FC Barcelona achieved victory against RC Celta de Vigo (2-4), their coach Hansi Flick expressed satisfaction with the team´s performance, although without falling into euphoria.
The German coach highlighted the reaction of the Blaugrana team in the second half and valued the improvement in the control of the game.
“We want a bit more. I like what I saw today. In the first half we made more mistakes than in the second half, and they used that to score two goals, but we controlled the match in the second half, we managed the ball and defended much better,” Flick stated.
The reading of the match: offensive accuracy and defensive nuances
For the German coach, the victory in Vigo should not be interpreted as a point of arrival, but rather as a step forward. “In football it doesn´t matter what has happened, it´s always about the next match. The second half gives us confidence for the upcoming games. We always look at ourselves, and when we put pressure on the opponent it´s always a good way. I´m happy with what I saw in the second half,” he emphasized. The coach stressed that the team’s success was based on the balance between attack and defense: “We played a good match with the ball and in the second half, we defended better (…) Football always works like that, it doesn´t matter what you’ve done. The second half gives us confidence for the next games. We only look at ourselves. Today, we pressed well and I´m happy for the team.”Standouts and absences: squad management and immediate future
Flick also took the opportunity to praise Robert Lewandowski, who scored a spectacular hat-trick at Balaídos. “After the injury, I can see a different Lewandowski. He’s positive; it’s good for his confidence, it’s good to score three goals for his confidence. Last season he was very important for us.” Regarding Frenkie de Jong, who was sent off with a second yellow card, Flick regretted his absence for the next match: “Great match, he controlled the game. He was very important for us to control this match. He’s playing at a great level. It’s not good that he will miss the next match. We’ll have to manage it. We’ll see if Pedri can return.” The German coach also spoke about the international break and the physical condition of the squad: “I hope everyone comes back healthy from the break. It’s not an excuse that we have absences, now let’s hope they return.” He added that it was “better to go into the break with a victory”, as it boosts the team’s morale and allows them to work calmly. In summary, Hansi Flick made it clear that beyond the result, what matters is the team’s evolution. With his message of self-criticism, ambition, and confidence, the German coach showed that Barça is on the right path. “We only look at ourselves,” Flick insisted, convinced that daily work and constant improvement will be key for his team to compete for everything again. The victory at Balaídos not only secured three points but also helped restore faith in a project that is beginning to show signs of maturity under the German coach’s leadership.More news
