A second year more demanding

Hansi Flick is living his second season in charge of FC Barcelona and, as is often said in the world of football, the second year always presents greater difficulties than the first.

The coach, current league champion, has had to face numerous setbacks that have affected his work: constant injuries, the uncertainty for weeks about the stadium where to play as home, and the doubts in the physical preparation of the team. Nevertheless, the German reaches his 50th league match against Celta, with a very positive balance.

A remarkable performance

Since Flick took over the bench, Barça has achieved 36 victories in 49 matches, which represents a 73.5% win rate. In the remaining thirteen occasions, the team recorded five draws and eight losses. Of those eight setbacks, four were at home (against Las Palmas, Leganés, Atlético, and Villarreal) and four away (Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Sevilla, and Real Madrid). The two most recent occurred this season, while the six previous ones correspond to last season.

The draws, almost always away

Most of the draws occurred far from Camp Nou (now Montjuïc). This season, Barça drew 1-1 in Vallecas, and in the previous one, they only managed draws against Betis, Getafe, and Celta, precisely their opponent this Sunday in Balaídos. The Betis also managed to draw in Montjuïc, making it the only team that Flick´s Barça has not yet managed to defeat in the league. The away performance remains one of the weak points: in six away games this season, the azulgrana team only won against Mallorca, Levante, and Oviedo. Therefore, starting to accumulate three points away from home has become an urgent necessity to defend the title.

An offensive machine that is losing effectiveness

In terms of scoring, the records remain very good. Under Flick´s management, Barça has scored 130 goals in the league and conceded 52, leaving a positive difference of +78 goals. However, this statistic shows a downward trend. In the previous season, after eleven matchdays, the team had scored 37 goals and conceded only 10, with a differential of +27. In the current 2025-26 season, the figures are 28 goals for and 13 against, a difference of +15, a fact that explains the five points less compared to the first year of the German coach.

Balaídos, new test for Flick

Balaídos will be the stage for Hansi Flick´s 50th match in the league. Although there is still room for improvement compared to his first season, the overall numbers of the coach since his arrival at the blaugrana bench are indisputable and reinforce his trajectory at the helm of the team.
