Flick: ”Of course we are capable of winning at the Bernabéu”

The German coach of FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick, expressed full satisfaction after his team´s convincing victory against Olympiakos (6-1) in the Champions League, a result he considers key to reinforcing the group´s confidence before the Clásico against Real Madrid.

Despite not being able to be on the bench at the Santiago Bernabéu due to a suspension, Flick highlighted the work of his players and the boost generated by a victory of this magnitude.

"We deserved the win and I’m happy"

The coach analyzed the match with calmness and self-criticism. "At the beginning we had some problems, but we deserved the win and I’m happy. They played very well at the start, they pressed us and we had some trouble, but Fermín’s goal helped us a lot. The confidence that goals give you is positive for the coming weeks", Flick explained, highlighting his team’s reaction after a somewhat difficult start. The coach took the opportunity to praise the outstanding performance of Fermín, who delivered a brilliant hat-trick that was decisive in the development of the match. "He is sensational, he scored three goals, the first one very important for our confidence. He has everything, he is dynamic and we need his speed. He is always very good in front of goal, he is very good with and without the ball. He gives us what we need", added the German, making it clear that the young player has become a key piece in his system.

Looking ahead to El Clásico with optimism

Flick avoided commenting on Mendilibar’s complaints about the refereeing, but he did want to shift the focus to the upcoming clash against Real Madrid. "The result gives us confidence for a tremendous match, a very important one. Last season’s four victories are in the past, but I think positively and I am optimistic. We are getting players back, and of course we are capable of going there and winning. We will need everyone at the highest level", he stated firmly. The coach knows that the key will be maintaining intensity and taking advantage of the team’s strong momentum after the big win.

Lamine Yamal, a player to recover

The performance of Lamine Yamal will also be essential ahead of the match at the Bernabéu. Although the young winger is still dealing with discomfort from a pubic issue, Flick expressed confidence in his recovery. "He has no problems. For him and for the other players, the victory is important, it is important to score, and on Sunday he will be a different Lamine. He has always performed very well in big matches. I do not doubt it", said the coach, who decided to give him a few minutes of rest against Olympiakos so he could arrive in better condition for El Clásico.

Praise for Rashford and Dro

Flick also had words of praise for Marcus Rashford, who is going through an excellent scoring streak after netting four goals in the Champions League, two of them against the Greek side. "He played a good match, he is performing very well, he is important on the pitch. It’s not easy for him, but he finishes the chances he gets. Two goals and a penalty, which for me is a penalty, and another one they did to him. He is giving one hundred percent of what I expect from him. It’s fantastic to have him because he can play in different positions, he is very fast, he combines well. With confidence, he will keep growing and understanding better with his teammates", said the Barça coach. Finally, Flick highlighted the performance of the young Dro, who made his Champions League debut leaving a great impression. "He did very well, he was in the area where he needed to be and gave the assist for the second goal. I’m very happy to have him because he has a lot of talent", concluded the German coach. Flick’s message is clear: Barça arrive at El Clásico with confidence, dynamism, and hunger for victory.
