When asked about the particularities of the competition, Flick emphasized that the Champions is a unique tournament, where the best teams in Europe compete. In this case, they face what he considers the best team from last season. Furthermore, he praised Luis Enrique, whom he admires both for his methodology and his vision of football. “We are facing the best team from last year, with a coach whose style I love. I like how he understands the game and how he works with his players,” commented the German.

Injuries in both teams

The coach acknowledged that both Barça and PSG come with important absences, but he showed calm about it. The Blaugrana team will not be able to count on Gavi, Joan García, or Raphinha, while the Parisians will also be without Doué, Marquinhos, or Dembélé. “It’s part of our profession. We all wish we had the full squad, fans want to see the best, but we must manage these situations,” he assured.

Regarding the emotional aspect, Flick insisted on the need to stay calm and build the game intelligently. Regarding Szczesny´s role, Flick expressed total confidence in his goalkeeper, recalling his performance in the previous season. “He is a Barça player and is ready for anything. With him, we conquered the three titles, I am convinced he is prepared for this match,” he stated.

The German acknowledged that he is motivated to play under the pressure of being considered a title contender, although he also warned of the difficulty of the duel. “We are Barça and we like to be favorites in the Champions, but we know that the path is very tough and that we have a spectacular rival in front of us. I’m not thinking about the last encounter with PSG, everything has changed now,” he pointed out.

Flick again highlighted the figure of Pedri, whom he considers an essential player both on and off the field. “He is playing incredible football and gives everything for the team. He is a leader in his position and has grown a lot. For me, he is already part of the captains. I talk a lot with him, and what I like most is that he doesn’t just agree with me: he always provides his perspective and has a clear opinion,” he said with admiration.
