The ´Dro moment´ could be very close

The outstanding daily work of the Galician attacking midfielder and the accumulation of injuries in the first team could lead Hansi Flick to give minutes to Pedro Fernández Sarmiento, known in football as Dro.

A talent from the academy that is asking for a chance

Dro is fully prepared. He is one of the most promising players from La Masia, and in recent hours, his chances of having more prominence with the first team have grown significantly. The absences of regular offensive players for Flick —Olmo, Raphinha, and Lewandowski—, along with doubts about the physical condition of Ferran, Fermín, and Lamine, complicate the selection of the starting eleven for the upcoming matches against Girona and Olympiacos.

Flick forced to rotate due to injuries

The need to replace injured players and to manage the return of those with discomfort will lead the German coach to modify his lineups and substitutions during these matches leading up to the classic. Dro already demonstrated during preseason that he can shine in front of Flick, even earning a starting position in a demanding match against Real Sociedad. The coach fully trusts the talent of the young 17-year-old player, who joined Barça from Val Miñor in the summer of 2022.

A constant evolution

In his fourth season as a blaugrana, Dro continues to grow both physically and tactically, without losing an ounce of his impressive technical quality. During this campaign, he has debuted with Barça Atlètic, coached by Belletti, accumulating 75 minutes in the Segunda Federación. In just a few months, the Galician has gone from playing with the Juvenil B of Pol Planas and occasionally with the Juvenil A of Belletti, to becoming a regular in the first team´s call-ups. Only some discomfort after the match against Porreres prevented him from being in four call-ups. To date, Dro has been called up for six matches with the first team and, after overcoming the nerves of his debut, seems more than ready to establish himself in the elite.

International experience

During the recent international break, Dro played three matches with the Spanish U-18 national team in the Four Nations Tournament held in Turkey. He was a starter against Portugal and Romania, and participated in the last nine minutes against Turkey, totaling 131 minutes that will help him arrive with competitive rhythm.

A new opportunity against Girona

Flick did not hesitate to start him against Real Sociedad, and it would not be surprising if he repeated his starting position against Girona in the attacking midfield. With Fermín just recovered and Olmo and Raphinha ruled out, both Dro and Toni could enjoy more minutes in the upcoming matches. Both players stand out for their versatility: Dro can play as an attacking midfielder, left winger, or false nine, while Toni can perform as a forward or winger on both sides.

La Masia, always to the rescue

Toni debuted last season in Barbastro, and Dro already knows what it is like to step on the grass of Lluís Companys. Flick demands the most from them to bring out their full potential, and with the injuries, his moment may have arrived. Against Girona, Dro could once again be the starting bet in the attacking midfield, with Toni as a luxury substitute. Both are ready to seize their opportunity. La Masia never fails.
