Medical statement from Ferran Torres: diagnosis and recovery timelines
The FC Barcelona forward is only suffering from a muscle overload and, if everything evolves correctly, he could be available for the next league match against Girona.
Around 11:00 hours, the RFEF announced that Ferran Torres was leaving the Spanish national team camp due to physical discomfort. The player was returning to Barcelona and would miss the match against Bulgaria. The official statement explained that he was suffering from "a muscle overload without associated anatomical injury", a diagnosis that the club itself confirmed after medical tests conducted on Monday, which ruled out any type of injury.
The FC Barcelona stated in its official note: "The medical tests conducted have confirmed that the player Ferran Torres has a muscle overload in the hamstring of the left leg, without associated injury. The player is not sidelined and will continue specific treatment".
Since it is only a muscle overload, his availability will depend on the evolution over the next few days. In principle, if the recovery follows its normal course, Ferran should be ready for October 8, the date of the match against Girona (16:15 hours) at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc.
The role of Ferran in the national team and at Barça
During Spain´s last match against Georgia, Luis de la Fuente kept Ferran Torres on the field for the full 90 minutes. In contrast, the other two starting forwards, Oyarzabal and Yéremy Pino, were substituted after the hour mark for Borja Iglesias and Alejandro Baena. The player felt some muscle fatigue at the end of the match, and since then the management of his condition has been handed over to Barcelona and its medical team. Under the orders of Hansi Flick, Ferran is playing an increasingly relevant role, even ahead of Lewandowski, something that was evident in the match against PSG. The German coach considers him his main option as ´9´, in addition to using him on both wings, as seen in the match against Sevilla at the Pizjuán. So far, Ferran has scored five goals (four in LaLiga and one in Champions) and provided one assist in the 10 matches played this season with Barça.The situation in the blaugrana infirmary
Flick is closely monitoring the physical condition of all the Barcelona players who are with their national teams. The most concerning note has been that of Dani Olmo, although ultimately his injury is not as serious as feared. The midfielder is suffering from a muscle injury in the soleus of the left leg, without connective involvement, and will be sidelined for two to three weeks. The positive news for the German coach is that Fermín López, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal are very close to completing their recovery and could reappear against Girona. The three are important pieces for Flick´s scheme: Yamal´s return would bring imbalance and creativity, while Raphinha and Fermín offer goals, intensity, and pressing work.More news
