This is Pau Cubarsí: Private life, studies, and hobbies of the central defender of the present and future of FC Barcelona

The defender born in Estanyol has consolidated an image of discreet, family-oriented, and focused player, away from any kind of controversy while continuing to develop both on and off the pitch.

A precocious leader in the blaugrana defense

The young Catalan central defender Pau Cubarsí has become a reference in the FC Barcelona defense in record time. At just 18 years old, he stands out for his physical attributes, tactical maturity, and ability to anticipate opponents, virtues that are uncommon in defenders of his age. His experience sharing the defensive line with Íñigo Martínez last season helped him make a significant leap in his development. This year, with a team more studied by opponents, he is expected to take on an even more prominent role in Hansi Flick´s defense. Many fans and analysts consider him the polar opposite of Lamine Yamal in terms of character and lifestyle. While the Rocafonda native celebrated his birthday surrounded by celebrities, Cubarsí opted for an intimate celebration with his family. A clear demonstration of his personality, which he himself defined as "low profile" in a recent talk with journalist José Ramón de la Morena.

Pau Cubarsí´s private life

Beyond the pitch, Cubarsí shared in an interview with As how his life has changed since he became part of the FC Barcelona first team. Born on January 22, 2007, in Estanyol (Gironès region), he left home at a very young age to join La Masía, the blaugrana academy where he began to forge his dream.

Today he lives with his sister Irene, who helps him with daily tasks, although his parents "come to see them frequently", as he himself comments. He acknowledges that his family is his main support and keeps him grounded, despite the fame: he considers himself "a normal guy, even though people ask him for photos from the outside". Regarding his love life, this summer he was seen with a red-haired girl during a vacation on the Costa Brava and Greece, although her identity has not been revealed.

Studies and hobbies

Balancing his sports career with academic training, Cubarsí studies Business Administration and Management three afternoons a week. This rhythm allows him to maintain a balance between training, studies, and the necessary rest to perform at the highest level. In his own words: "It´s more relaxed than university, which requires more time. This way I have time to recover". The defender has acknowledged on more than one occasion that he needs to sleep about ten hours a day to feel good. Additionally, he is gradually gaining independence: "learning to cook a little" and taking care of household chores, skills he considers important for his future when he decides to live completely independently. Cubarsí obtained his driver´s license shortly after turning 18, along with his teammate and friend Gavi. He has revealed that Lamine Yamal is following the same path with the same instructor. However, the traffic in the Catalan city is not pleasant for him: "Traffic is horrible in Barcelona, so much that I only take the car if I have no other choice, for example, to go to the dentist". Personally, Pau is an atypical footballer for his generation. Unlike many young people his age, he doesn´t play video games, nor is he attracted to tattoos. He prefers to maintain a simple image: "with the quiff forward, like the boys his age", without the need to stand out for his appearance.
