A farewell to Johan Cruyff in the rain

FC Barcelona closed its stage at the Johan Cruyff Stadium with another football exhibition on a night marked by rain. There were six goals (added to the two from Newcastle in recent memory) in a modestly sized setting, but enormous in history, as it bears the name of the genius who forever changed the culé philosophy.

The storm accompanied from the start, with heavy rain that only gave a slight respite during the warm-up. However, the pitch was in perfect condition, impeccable, demonstrating exemplary care.

A start with a signature identity

Barça started with a free kick taken by Raphinha that went wide. Getafe, true to Bordalás´ style, resorted to time-wasting and hard play, although referee De Burgos barely intervened. The difference in styles was evident: while the azulgranas sought football, the opponent clung to physical clashes.

The first goal came in the 15th minute. Raphinha connected with Dani Olmo, who assisted Ferran Torres with a backheel. The Valencian shot first time and opened the scoring with an action that perfectly represented the Cruyff spirit. Shortly after, Èric García took advantage of a rival´s oversight to launch Raphinha, who assisted Ferran again for the 2-0.

Getafe´s resistance and azulgrana dominance

With two goals down, Getafe responded with toughness, trying to stop Barça with fouls. Ferran Torres came close to a hat-trick, but his shot hit the post. Bordalás, nervous on the sidelines, protested insistently until he saw the yellow card.

Koundé was also a victim of the visitors´ rough play, which caused tensions that almost cost Raphinha a red card. The culé bench was calling in unison for more punishment for the rival´s aggression.

Barça doesn´t slow down

Hansi Flick repeated the Newcastle formula: he punished Rashford´s lateness at the start but reintroduced him after the break. Getafe pushed forward and tried a shot from Javi Muñoz that went close to Joan Garcia´s goal, who also stopped a weak header from a corner.

The posts continued to deny goals, especially to Lewandowski, who suffered a true repertoire of blows in the area. Despite this, Flick made substitutions: Fermín and Marc Casadó came on.

The final touch

The newly introduced Casadó sent a long pass to Rashford, who assisted back for Dani Olmo to score the third. Then, Fermín was close to scoring a spectacular goal that would have been one of the best of the season. Lewandowski couldn´t finish the play, but the team´s brave spirit remained intact.

Barça completed a perfect match: solid as in Newcastle, voracious as against Valencia, and composed in the face of the rival´s toughness. With Flick at the helm, this team shows that its style does not depend on the stadium or the conditions. Football, after all, is universal.
